jogging with the fancy pants

the upside of working ridiculous hours is jogging as the moon rises and the sun starts to set. even better is being able to run from work into the fancy land of the piers of chelsea and fantasize about my life.

puppy farm! eek!

a new "pet store" has opened around the corner from the office. i didn't even know these puppy stores were legal! it is kind of terrible. i didn't use to think so, but then one day i saw a glimpse into the downstairs of one of these places where there was a whole 'nother level of puppy cages not for the public eye. ugh. and on the other hand... these puppies are so adorable!! but it really isn't right.

i do know that some store's in the village have banned DRUNK PUPPY BUYING. what is this world coming to when we can't buy kittens and puppies after whiskey? spur of the moment pet-ting should be a right of every american.

alright, maybe i'm on the crazy juice. no drunkery is probably smart.  a truly ridiculous law is the proposed san fran ban against selling ALL live creatures as pets. i say creatures because this isn't just puppies and cats, but reptiles, fish, even every beach child's  hermit crab. think about that for a minute. you can buy live lobster and crawfish to throw them in boiling water, but you wouldn't be able to buy something to put in your fancy aquarium.

not to mention i just can't handle getting a dog right now.

some people make wedding pacts--if you're not married by 40, we'll get hitched yada yada. maybe i'll make a puppy pact. course saying i'll get a puppy when i turn some number would mean eventually i'll have to have a birthday that is something other than 27.   :]

dystopia

Strange days lead to Strange nights
What do you control when you have no control?
Everyday the flames get higher higher higher
You can move your feet one in front of the other, you can even move the speed faster slower. But where can they take you? How far can you go till you are constrained by all the chains that bind?
You can open your mail or leave it stacked away. Yet bureaucracy revolves on its axis, heedless of Schrödinger's cat entwined.

Tread water the shore remains ignored.
Everyday the sky gets lower lower lower
You can pop the tab, swallow the pill, follow the white rabbit and yearn. In the morning the glass is still a mirror not a magic lantern
Everyday the tide gets blacker blacker blacker
If we cut off the water then the jackals will return

A sharp stick
Strong hands digging in a pit of mud
Our tongues they are all on fire
Soft things can be squished
Hinges can be snapped
The earth is on fire
You can paint on a smile, outline your eyes
Pull up the muscles
We are all hungry we are all tired
The walls we build are higher higher higher

You can hit the snooze or jump from bed but everyday you ride the same line, sardines like sheep in pipelines, messy mechanisms of the Powerful.
Higher higher higher
Let the mother fucker burn
Control is imaginary
Self determination fallacy
We're afraid of dying

Plug in Check out
A can of paint explodes, dripping rivulets over plastered advertisements.
But a little bleach and a minimum wage check rerights remnants of reality.
The earth the earth is on fire

marathon man

i made it back to ny just in time for the marathon!
what are you, crazy? i didn't mean for me. for now, i'll leave that business to ms. holmes-cruise. (though next year... sorely tempted...)

which should make me more nervous? alone, no cell phone, gasp-a girl: running through the coffee fields, straight up the mountain, seemingly deserted for miles
or running along the waterfront, through construction, through tunnels, seemingly deserted for, well, blocks?

am i safer for being in the west? for being in a big city? one has unmentionable rape percentages, the other has enough women on the island to spread the percentages out. one is shrouded by the veil of dark africa, the other is lit by CSI and Law and Order plot lines.

today the river was beautiful. and i could breath a little easier (clearly not running fast enough) and i ran farther along the bank than i ever have before.

but no one ran out to greet me, to smack my hand, or even to laugh and call me in for a drink.
the path was smooth, no ankle weary pock marks. the hill was non existent. at any time i could have run inland and found a subway. but no one cared if i was there. no one cared if a ran. no one waited at home.
