wow. hard to imagine


cookie monster eats the world trade center back in 1976. how bizarre to look at this image today. here in the city anything that evokes the towers, whether benign or not, is taboo. there were the movies, of course, and they were advertised when they came out, but you just don't see visual references to the towers around here. it is too painful for - what, the mass consciousness?
we have a gaping hole in the city that is a festering wound of mismanagement, overwhelming debt, and construction.  there are dreams, too. dreams of rebuilding, of monuments, of healing.
but ny is millions of dollars in debt
and alternate pathways route you around so if you keep your head down and rush-something new yorkers never do- you never have to see the wound at all.
